Utilizing the Unlikely
I have been needing to try something new. I have gotten so used to the same aspects of design, and I’ve gotten almost bored of it. I am given a prompt and I execute a draft enough to know how to refine and improve the look as a whole. BUT then I get lost in the project and forget to think outside the box. I severely need to think outside the box in order to better my inner artist.
Why?
I had some ideas. I found some art I like and put them together. Most are done by artists I know of, one of them I did recently. Seeing these examples gave me an idea of a direction I wanted to take.
Gaining Inspo
Looking at these example artwork, I loved elements of each.
Thinking Outside the Box
In thinking outside the box, I needed to just start with what I had BUT use it in a different way. I grabbed three images from my camera roll and added a threshold filter in photoshop. A new idea using an unlikely image.
Sketching it Out
I needed to get my thoughts out on paper. It’s easier with a pen and my hand. I chose some of the elements in the sketches, but I didn’t love any of my full layouts.
In the End
Sticking the Landing
I spent most of my time arranging the pieces to make the first draft. My first draft was simpler, it had less going on. I added more. I used better proximity, I was intentional about where I placed each element. My final design ensured that the viewer could focus on the text that was important in the flyer and that it had a clear purpose. Overall, I am satisfied with the use of an unlikely element in my design and with the end result!
